AxMediaTech S.r.l. has been set up in July 2008 as spin-off company founded by some partners of the EU project AXMEDIS.

AXMEDIS project was funded by the ICT strand of the EU's Sixth Framework Programme for research in 2004 with the initial participation of 20 partners (among the others: OD2, HP, AFI, Univ Leeds, ACIT, Giunti Labs, EUTELSAT, TISCALI, University of Florence, etc.).

After an initial phase of research, the project developed technologies for content management (the so-called AXMEDIS Framework) and realised a set of real demonstrators validated by leading distributor partners in the last project year (BBC, TISCALI, EUTELSAT, ELION, Giunti ILABS, HP, TEO, ANSC, DSI, etc.).
A few of these trials have been transformed in real services (see CrossMediaFinder, ANSC MUSA). During the project, the AXMEDIS Framework was accessible to other industries and partners through an affiliation mechanism. At the end of the project, the total number of partners joining the project, reached the number of 43 including private and public research institutions, broadcasters, content owners and collecting societies (click here for the full partners' list).

Due to the objectives reached by the project, some of the partners decided to found the AxMediaTech srl company, including BIXIO Group, SED and AFI, one of the largest associations of content producers in Italy.

During the first phase of AXMEDIS results exploitation, the AxMediaTech company entered in contact with important stakeholders, like public research institutions, broadcasters and public administrations.
